Another study showed that patients could maintain 50-60% loss of excess weight 10-14 years after surgery. How safe is surgery? Surgery is safe in expert hands and in hospitals with a good infrastructure and equipment. In a surgery of over 10,000 patients, the mortality rate for weight loss surgery was 0.3%.
